Bibleman, for those who aren’t familiar with the series, is a Christian “super hero”. He regularly combats various villians with his trusty sidekicks: Cypherr and Biblegirl.
As an adult, I find the entire video series beyond silly. It’s low-budget, terrible acting, and borders on obnoxious. But these videos weren’t made for me. They’re made for children. So with that in mind, I am going to give a review based on what my boys think of Bibleman.
My boys have seen most (if not all) of the Bibleman/Bibleman Jr. DVDs. They even had the Bibleman costume at one point. They would race around the house with their Bibleman sword chanting, “The Sword of the Spirit…which is the Word of GOD” And begin to battle various villains from the DVDs. So clearly, they are entertained by the series.
When we received Bibleman: Combating the Commandment of Confusion in the mail, my boys were bouncing off the walls to watch it! I put the DVD on and settled in to watch.
The video is a ‘live action’ show, and honestly, the quality was a little like a home movie. I have a home movie we took of Playhouse Disney’s show at Disney Studios that has the same quality/sound. So…I was a little relieved that I didn’t actually pay money for this DVD.
The storyline was typical for a Bibleman story, and my boys were captivated throughout. I don’t think they wandered away from this movie one time. So I have to give a little credit for storyline here. And honestly, it’s because of the wholesome message (combined with the Power Rangers/Superhero angle) that I ever bought into these DVDs to begin with. Bibleman does NOT disappoint when it comes to throwing down the “word of God” and putting “bad buys” in their place! My boys imitate this story over and over. They’re almost 6 years old and 7 years old. This type of movie is right up their alley.
As an mom looking for good, wholesome, adventurous entertainment for my boys, this DVD delivers the goods. But honestly, the quality of the product (terrible acting, terrible set, low-budget “feel”) puts me off. I genuinely like the idea of Bibleman and I like how it positively affects my boys. So for that, I give this DVD 3.5 stars (slightly above average).
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this DVD free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com <http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program.
