Week 25: Going for Gold

The Winter Olympics started last week.  Our family has always enjoyed the Winter Olympics because we’re fans of ice hockey, and we like the “extreme sports” like snowboarding.  Since this is the first Olympics that the boys can understand (somewhat), I thought it might be fun to do a unit study on the 2010 Winter Olympics for the next two weeks.  This week, we focused our study on the mascots, logo, and the torch.

We learned the names of each mascot, and what they represented.  We tracked the path of the torch relay on a Canadian map.

Red cover is Ty.  Blue cover is Cam.

We are also keeping a medal count on our wall:

Next week we will talk about some of the different sports that are played at the Winter Olympics.  So far, the boys like ice hockey and snowboarding the best.

Ty’s Snack of the Week this week was called, “Frozen Summer Treats”.  Basically, it was fruit mixed with vanilla yogurt, and frozen.

Here’s a picture of Cam doing his Math lesson (before we left to go ice skating):

Here is Cam and Ty in Heritage Studies.  They were learning about rationing food.  They each had a piece of bread.  They were allowed to eat half of it, and save the rest to eat throughout the lesson.

In going along with the ‘Summer’ theme in Ty’s reading class, he had to make a 4th of July sparkler.  He made three (one red, one white, one blue), but the red one was his favorite.  You can also see Cam peeking in on the shot.  LOL

Cam had to make a bear mask in his Bible class (but I thought he looked more like the wolfman):

And on Friday, I declared it “Pajama Day”, and we did school in our pajamas:

Short blog this week.  Hopefully there will be more content for next week.  :D
