Hello Reyna, I DO still love BJU. I’ve done the online lessons AND tried teaching it myself using BJU’s TE. My boys prefer ME teaching them, but that has more to do with our hands-on activities instead of just watching the activities take place on the videos. If I had to pick one thing that I’m disappointed with, it would be the Reading program. We are currently using Reading 4 for both boys, and it’s just so boring to them. I had to drop BJU’s reading program and throw together a reading program myself. My goal is to instill a love for reading. I already know they CAN read and they CAN comprehend what they are reading…now I just have to show them how awesome it is when you find yourself lost in a good book. It’s already working, as my 8 year old just finished The Lightning Thief and is begging to read the second book in the series.

Hello Amber, coincidentally, we just moved as well. I had been teaching the boys myself (using the TE from BJU), and decided to hook them back up to the online lessons for the same reason you are thinking of doing it. Here’s the thing: if your children are pretty independent with regards to paying attention to the lessons while you do other things, then this program will work very well for you. If your children are like my boys, requiring me to be physically seen in order to pay attention, then it’s just “ok”. It does help in that I don’t have to go over the lessons the night before now (the teacher is doing that work for me). But I still have to be there with them to actively make sure they are doing what they are supposed to. We have taken the past 6 weeks off due to our move. We start back to school on Monday…with the videos for now.

Hi There! I stumbled upon your blog and found this post very helpful. I am currently using Rod & Staff curriculum for our 1st grade son. We are about to embark on a out of state move and the thought of homeschooling through that has made me consider doing an online program so someone else can do the bulk of instruction while I am packing, organizing, etc. Do you have any advice on that? Do you think it would be difficult to switch half way through the year to this curriculum/program?

What a fun week! I love the dividers you have up between your boys. I may need to do that with my kids so they can’t bother each other when we’re trying to work. Awesome idea!!!

Hi. Just browsing through your blog. I found it while searching BJU distance learning. I see you are no longer using the DVD’s and although I am aware of the cons of doing school this way, it seems like the best option with a newborn coming soon. Any suggestions, ideas on making sure it’s “boredom” proof? More fun… In hind-sight that is! thanks for sharing your experiences!

In our Kindergarten year (just started 2nd grade), we went to a Southeastern Reptile presentation at the Bass Pro Shop and counted it as a field trip! We also tried to walk around and identify animals on display. When we got home we started a book of reptiles in GA so I totally think that counts!
